One of my favorite sayings is, “To lead the orchestra, you must turn your back on the crowd” (James Cook).
Immediately following that I think, “Fail fast and fail cheap” (Paul Ferguson), as well as “Be sure you have calculated your calculated risks correctly” (Jim McAtee).
Having strong effective leadership in career services today is so very critical. Our profession is at a critical place in history. Will we look back to this time and say we leveraged everything we could as career services was being elevated in the national discourse? NACE workplace competencies, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and pressures on higher education today are all pressures…and opportunities for our profession.
