The Grey Space.
Thanks for joining me! My name is Jim McAtee. I want to help make the Grey Space less grey. The Grey Space is the place where industry and higher education try to collaborate.
The Grey Space. The place where there is uncertainty. Uncertainty of process, outcomes, how, and what. Conflict. Conflicting priorities, and culture, mis-alignment of time and space and processes, and even language. OPPORTUNITY. The Grey Space is the space for greatest opportunity. Immense opportunity.
Opportunity to create connections and alignment. When processes are created aligning resources to a common outcome, the magic happens in the the Grey Space.
The Grey Space is where the fast paced bottom line needs of industry and the historical bureaucracy and organized anarchy of higher education meet. I explain organized anarchy and higher education bureaucracy in posts here. For now, just know those are not negative. Just as the fast paced bottom line needs of industry are not negative. They just…are.
Translators, problem solvers, collaborators, and connectors are needed in the Grey Space by both sides. This is where I serve. In the Grey Space. Being a quiet servant leader in the background, supporting faculty and employers, students and alumni, and higher education and industry. Leading connecting activities. Creating CHANGE.
This is the space I hope to speak into, lean into, and learn from. I want to create meaningful content empowering robust conversation, learning, and application.
I work with industry, higher education, and career services. Let’s explore the Grey Space together and make a positive impact making the Grey Space a little less grey for everyone.
